EP Simulator

Emergency procedures called out loud while you are doing something else. Recite the whole thing from memory, then hear exactly what you missed — and wait, not knowing when the next one is coming.
How to run it

Turn your speakers up first. The whole drill is audio — if you cannot hear the callout over whatever else you are doing, you will sit through a session and get nothing from it. Use the speaker check below and set your volume before you start.

Then start the session and go do something else — play a game, cook, fold laundry. Leave this tab open behind whatever you are doing. When it calls an EP, recite the whole procedure out loud, exactly as you would to an instructor. The point is the divided attention. Reciting EPs in a quiet room is a different, easier skill than reciting them while your head is somewhere else.

It stops if your computer sleeps. Display-only sleep is fine and it keeps running, but a real sleep — lid closed, or left alone long enough to drop off — halts everything until you wake it. On a phone it needs the screen on and this tab in front; iOS suspends backgrounded tabs outright.

Speakers

Play a callout at the volume you will actually be sitting at. Adjust until you would catch it mid-game.

About the microphone

Mic mode is the one thing on this site that leaves your browser. To turn speech into text, Chrome and Safari send the audio to Google’s and Apple’s speech services — so mic mode needs a connection, and your voice goes to them. Everything else here, including every score, stays on your device. If that trade is not one you want to make, leave the mic off; the drill works without it.

Firefox has no speech recognition at all, so mic mode is unavailable there.
